The next Women's Fellowship meeting will be held on Feb. 9th at 9:30 AM. Please note the change in the time as Lilly Kempf will give a talk about the time she spent in China. She is the granddaughter of Florence Kempf. Following her talk there will be the trivia portion to the program. Following both programs is a soup & corn bread luncheon. February's Women's breakfast at Cowan's will be on Feb. 16th at 9 AM. All the women of the church are welcome to come & have breakfast, also.
Mardi Gras will be held Feb. 12! EVERYONE is invited to participate in the annual Mardi Gras celebration after the 10 o'clock church service Sun., Feb. 12. There will be games and prizes, a food stand for everyone to have lunch, a cake/bake walk, and a themed basket silent auction. There is something for all ages, so come and enjoy. There is a sign-up sheet in the atrium if you are interested in donating a themed basket or individual items for a basket and cakes or other desserts for the bake walk. Items may be brought to the church office. Thank you, The Board of Christian Education
The Sixth Annual Stew Supper will be held Fri., Feb. 17, from 11-6 in the dining room. Proceeds will benefit the Atrium Fund. Our “famous” stew will be served with slaw, bread and delicious homemade dessert. Both “dine in” and “carry out” will be available. The following are ways the congregation can be of help: lend an electric skillet or an electric roaster for cooking stew meat on Wed. Feb. 15, bake a dessert (preferably a homemade pie), help with serving and cleanup on Friday, (shifts are 11-2, 2-5, and 5-7). If you can help in any of these ways, please note it on the friendship register or let Byron Stolte know. Tickets will be sold before and after worship services or in the church office – adults $8, children (3-12) $4.
Sign up sheets for February coffee hour are in the atrium. All help is appreciated.
Members and guests: Copies of the February “St. Peter’s Messenger” newsletters and the 2011 Annual Report are located in the atrium and south entranceway, or visit www.stpeters-washington.org to view it online. Join us on Facebook to receive important notes and reminders.
This month, St. Peter’s website (www.stpeters-washington.org) will begin hosting a “Login Page”. This page will contain various documents and information for members of St. Peter’s to view, accessible by a common username and password. This username and password is available on a blue slip in your mailed annual report or by picking up the same blue slip in the church office. The documents accessible via the login page might include items such as the annual report, certain schedules, church constitution, and other important listings.
If you would like to honor a loved one or anniversary by donating altar flowers or worship bulletins in 2012, you may sign up on the schedules posted in the sanctuary or contact the church office. Please indicate if you wish for the flowers to be delivered to shut-ins or if will be keeping the flowers. Indicating “Y” means you would like the flowers delivered to shut-ins; “N” means you will take care of the flowers.
The Worship 150 Ministry Team is considering placing large, beautiful, seasonal silk floral arrangements when no flowers are donated for a given Sunday. If you have talent or interested in creating silk bouquets, please contact Pastor Paul or team members.
Weds.@St.Pete’s returns in Lent for spiritual growth and enrichment. Come take a giant “leap” on Leap Day to continue your Spiritual Journey through our small group gatherings. Pastors Paul, Leah and Christy will each offer an opportunity for mutual biblical enrichment, growth, and support. Each group will meet for five Wednesdays; Feb. 29, and March 7, 14, 21, & 28 from 6:15-7:30 PM. Below are the existing small group options. There is still time for a possible fourth group to form (for adults or children). Please contact the pastors if you have suggestions or questions! Please RSVP to paul@stpeters-ucc.org ASAP regarding the group in which you are interested. (Books need to be ordered for you in time.) Childcare is also available upon request if Pastor Leah is notified one week in advance.
a) A Lenten Study on Faith, Death, and Dying: led by Student Pastor, Christy Smith, that will take an in-depth look at the grieving process with a book called, "In Life and Death: The Sharing of Faith" by LeRoy H. Aden. When faced with the death of a loved one or a terminal illness, our faith can be greatly tested or even lost. If you have struggled with faith during these difficult times in life or if you would simply like to learn more about faith struggles, please join us on this five week Lenten journey. If you would like to participate, please email or call the church office, or you may email Christy Smith at csmith@eden.edu.
b) Equipping to Serve: For those who are sick, lonely, hurting, or dying, few things show the love of God more clearly than the simple presence of another person who cares. Often, churches can come to rely on their pastors and/or a few others to fill this role, missing the multitude of people and ways in which the Holy Spirit has equipped each of us to engage in this ministry of presence. In this Weds.@St. Pete's class, guest speakers will join us each night as we seek to understand the places of pain people experience and the healing touch our words and our presence can provide. We may never fully know until we too are at similar places of pain, the ways in which our willingness to enter such raw and vulnerable situations can honor and praise God. Come, find how you are equipped to serve, and be empowered for this ministry of community caring!
c) Journeymen: Pastor Paul leads this group (designed for men) across generations and throughout the Washington community for a spring gathering to discuss and share lessons on life. They have chosen Don Miller’s, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years - What I Learned in Editing My Life, as their discussion starter. We will conduct our Wednesday gatherings at Joe’s Deli, 9 W Main, downtown. Contact Pastor Paul for more information or to reserve a book. Participants will find remarkable connection between the subject matter and us.
The 62nd Annual Men of the Church Banquet will be held Thurs., March 1 at 6:00 at Our Lady of Lourdes. St. Peter’s hosted this event the last two years and has always had good representation. Dinner tickets are available from Russel Sherman. The cost is $10.
“These Days” Devotional Booklets for Jan., Feb. & March are available in the south entranceway, the atrium and in the parlor. Your contribution to help defray the cost of providing the books is appreciated.
The Women’s Fellowship continues to collect postage stamps. Please tear off the part of the envelope with the stamp and they will do the trimming. A collection box is located on the coat rack outside the church office. Business owners are encouraged to save, too.
Please note: we are no longer collecting medicine bottles.
St. Peter’s benefits financially from use of Schnuck’s escrip cards. Pick up one at Schnuck’s, register it, then just have it scanned each time you shop. It’s as easy as that!
