Worship at St. Peter's
St. Peter’s offers two weekly worship services for your participation. The traditional Sunday morning service is at 10:00. It contains elements of what many of our worshipers have “grown up with.” In attending this service you will hear a complete sermon that is based on a weekly scripture passage. Readings, uplifted prayers from the congregation, an anthem by our choir, special instrumental and vocal music, and new plus old favorite hymns accompanied by pipe organ are also part of the experience. On some Sundays, one of our two bell choirs will perform. Children are welcomed in the service as a special children’s moment is shared by a minister on the chapel steps. For the second through fifth Sundays, children are invited to leave after the children’s message to attend a grade-appropriate Sunday School class. The first Sunday of the month is Family Sunday where the entire family worships together. Holy Communion is celebrated by all on Family Sundays, served in the pews. Most services last 45 minutes to one hour. A coffee/punch and cookie fellowship time takes place at 9:30 in our Dining Room. While many people like to wear their “Sunday best,” worshipers in jeans or casual clothing are welcomed with open-arms. Long-time as well as new Christians have found this service to be comfortable and directly applicable to their faith journey.
A Saturday evening service is also offered at 5:00. The scripture readings and sermon are the same as for Sunday but other elements are streamlined to fill 35 to 40 minutes of time for our busy worshipers. Rather than organ, all hymns and music are performed on grand piano. This service has a more intimate feel. Worshipers are perfectly welcomed to come in their “Saturday play clothes.” Communion is celebrated on the first Saturday of the month. Worshipers are invited to come forward for the sacrament.
Finding Your Way Around St. Peter’s
Worshipers can find access into our church building through open doors near our three parking lots. The sanctuary and atrium doors are off our Fifth Street front and parking lot across the street. A ramp with automatic doors is provided. People who park at the south parking lot at our rear will find an elevator inside the double doors. To reach the sanctuary, take the elevator to the top floor. If you take the steps, go up one flight and head straight. Double doors will take you to our atrium. Go up the grand staircase to the sanctuary level. Our Market Street entrance is closest to our Market Street parking lot, but note that this entrance has a curb and one step to navigate. Upon entrance, proceed straight and turn right through double doors to the Atrium. During the work week, only the south parking lot entrance doors are opened. The church office is at the top of the flight of stairs, or first floor elevator stop.
A nursery for pre-kindergarten children is fully staffed for our Sunday Service. It meets the requirements for the United Church of Christ Safe Church Policy. Parents may find it by accessing the side door in our atrium and turning left down the hallway. It is across the hall from the restrooms. The nearby stairwell will take you to our third floor Sunday school rooms.
